Civils specialist lands multi-million-pound deal

A North East civils specialist has secured a multi-million-pound contract to support the delivery of 248 new homes in County Durham.

Adderstone Civils has been appointed by housebuilder Strata to deliver roads, sewers and plotworks at its new Spennymoor development, which marks Strata’s first project in the North East.

The contract covers adoptable roads, foul and surface water drainage, utilities and external works, with construction having started in May and set to continue for more than three years.

Adderstone is also reprocessing around 48,000 tonnes of stone excavated from the site for reuse as sub-base material across the development.

The approach has removed the need to import virgin aggregate, while avoiding an estimated 2000 HGV movements and reducing embodied carbon by around 480 tonnes of CO₂e. No excavated material has gone to landfill.

Work on the project will create 12 permanent jobs, including six apprenticeships, while Adderstone has committed to sourcing its supply chain within 25 miles of the development.
