Contractor raises roof with raft of school projects

A roofing and building maintenance firm has strengthened its order book with education sector deals.

Hodgson Sayers has delivered upgrades to a number of North East schools.

Bosses say the work has left “buildings safe, well maintained and fit for the future”.

The business, headquartered in Tanfield Lea, near Stanley, County Durham, worked on education bases including St Michael’s RC Primary School; Langley Park Primary School; Barnard Castle’s Teesdale School and Sixth Form; and St Anne’s Church of England Primary School.

It also completed the first phase of a three-year roofing improvement programme at Glynwood Primary School for Gateshead Council.

Working at Newcastle’s St Michael’s RC Primary School – which operates as part of the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust – Hodgson Sayers delivered improvements to five roofs that included a thermal upgrade. 

It also provided thermal upgrades to roof spaces and worked on a large outdoor play area cover at Bishop Auckland’s St Anne’s Church of England Primary School.

John Sayers, managing director at 1979-founded Hodgson Sayers, which also runs a Nottingham base, said: “Working on schools requires a particular understanding of the environment. 

Projects often need to be delivered during the holidays; every project is different and we regularly have to overcome technical, logistical and practical challenges.

“Our experience means we understand how to plan and deliver these projects effectively.”
