OnPath team scales new heights for charities

A team from a North East renewable energy developer has taken fundraising to new heights with a gruelling Yorkshire climbing challenge to raise funds for charities supporting communities in Sunderland and Scotland.

Ten colleagues from Sunderland-headquartered OnPath Energy completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, tackling the 25-mile route across Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

Despite poor weather and more than 1500 metres of climbing, the team completed the challenge in just over 11 hours.

Funds raised will be divided equally between Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen and Glasgow-based Beatson Cancer Charity, OnPath’s nominated charities for its English and Scottish offices respectively.

The company adopted Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen as its English charity at the start of last year, with fundraising activities since generating more than £6000.

Eleven colleagues have also volunteered at the charity’s High Street West base, serving meals and supporting service users.

Eve Lewer, who took part in the challenge, said: “We’ve learned and experienced a great deal about how the amazing Soup Kitchen team provides practical help and support to local people in real need, which gave us the motivation we needed when the going got tough.

“We’re all thrilled with how much we’ve raised for these two fantastic charities and really grateful to everyone that’s contributed to our fundraising efforts.”
