Civil engineer leads major town upgrade scheme
A family-run civil engineering firm has bolstered its order book with work on a seven-figure coastal town improvement scheme.
BCE Northern is delivering the second phase of the £6.2 million Hartlepool Town Centre Connectivity programme.
Bosses say the work will improve roads, walkways and cycle routes encompassing the town’s marina, headland and nearby Seaton Carew.
Adrian Barton, managing director at BCE Northern, which is based in Low Fell, near Gateshead, said: “This project will significantly improve connectivity for walkers and cyclists across Hartlepool.
“The roads in and around the town centre are often very busy, which isn’t ideal for cyclists forced to share with motorists, while many of the walkways were also in need of resurfacing.
“This is a major project for us, but one that is testament to our success in delivering large multi-million-pound schemes across the North of England.”
The work is being project managed by Hartlepool Borough Council, with funding from the Tees Valley Combined Authority and Active Travel England.
Brendon Colarossi, of Hartlepool Borough Council, added: “It’s fantastic to see these connectivity projects coming to fruition.
“It is absolutely crucial that people who live in, work in and visit our town can move around safely and freely, and this scheme will enable them to do just that.”
