Breedon Group says its new Cragmill Quarry asphalt plant will meet rising customer demand

Breedon 'to quarry growth' with £4 million venture

An aggregates firm says it has bolstered operations with a £4 million expansion.

Breedon Group has added an asphalt plant to a Northumberland site.

Bosses say the venture – at Cragmill Quarry, in Belford – will meet “growing demand” and has returned asphalt production to the base for the first time in more than a decade.

They add the plant – which replaces a building decommissioned by the quarry’s former operator – will produce up to 50,000 tonnes of asphalt every year.

James Macintosh, Breedon area director, said: “Bringing asphalt production back to Cragmill significantly strengthens our ability to supply customers across Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.

“The new plant also gives us room to scale.

“We can increase production as demand grows and continue to broaden the range of materials available from Cragmill over time.”
