SHINE Roadshows
SHINE, the North East’s new employer accreditation programme, is on the road this summer between 2nd - 16th July, and it’s your chance to get involved.
SHINE is a new initiative from the North East Combined Authority, backed by North East mayor Kim McGuinness.
SHINE helps employers of all sizes help ignite a movement for better work, fairer pay and real opportunity in the North East.
The SHINE roadshows are visiting towns and cities across the region throughout July, offering free in-person events where you can find out more about the programme.
We will break down the application process and answer your questions about how to get started, or how to level up.
There will also be special guest speakers and a chance to network.
This event is ideal for employers looking to build a workplace where people feel valued, supported and empowered to grow.
Roadshow locations
2 July – UMi, Durham
- Guest speaker Nicki Clark OBE, Chief Executive of Umi, will discuss the importance of employee engagement, communications, and building trust through open and meaningful dialogue.
3 July – Gateshead College
- Guest speakers Ivan Jepson, Director of Business and Lori Casson, Head of People at Gateshead College will discuss opportunities for all - inclusivity, upskilling and employee empowerment.
8 July – Lola Jeans, Murphy’s Bar, Fish Quay, North Shields
- Guest speaker North East Mayor Kim McGuinness joins us to talk about why fair work and pay is important for the region.
9 July – Ward Hadaway, Newcastle
- Jamie Gamble, Employment Partner at Ward Hadaway will share valuable perspectives on how legal and leadership approaches can align to create healthier, more resilient workplaces.
10 July – Blyth Tall Ship, Northumberland
- Guest speaker from Blyth Tall Ship will discuss how supporting local initiatives, volunteering, and building partnerships can enhance your brand, boost employee morale, and contribute to a thriving region.
14 July – Orbit, NETPark, Sedgefield
- Guest speaker Bethany Ainsley of OptiMe will be sharing expert insights and practical strategies for promoting wellbeing in the workplace, helping you build a culture where your people can truly shine
15 July – Alnwick Playhouse, Northumberland
- Guest speaker Tracey Elvin, Head of HR at North East Combined Authority will share how the organisation has successfully implemented work-life balance strategies and how you can too.
16 July – City Hall, Sunderland
- Guest speaker Paul McEldon Chief Executive, The BIC.
NB All of the events, bar the one at Orbit on 14 July (12pm-3pm), are from 4pm to 7pm.
