Exploring 'inclusive employment'

In this workshop session, we will be exploring what ‘inclusive employment’ really means, exploring the detail of employing ex-offenders

‘Recruitment’ and ‘crime’ are but two of the terms which frequently appear high on the list of concerns in the Chamber’s Quarterly Economic Survey (QES), but perhaps infrequently appear in the same sentence together. In a Chamber ‘thought leadership’ event held earlier this year, we found that:

  • Employment is one of the most effective ways to reduce reoffending. A steady job supports stability and reintegration.
  • There is a wide range of practical support available for employers, including help with policies, disclosure, onboarding and mentoring.
  • Partnership working between prisons, probation services, support organisations and employers is essential to successful rehabilitation and recruitment.

In this follow-up workshop, we will be hosted by HMP Kirklevington Grange, a Category D prison, to explore the points mentioned above in more detail.

This workshop will be participaratory in nature, and as such, will be a smaller group. We will discuss topics such as:

  • What is practically means for businesses who are seeking to engage in positive change through inclusive recruitment practices.
  • Understand how rehabilitation occurs in a custodial setting and how prison leavers and people serving community sentences can support your organisation.
  • Support available for all parties, seeking to employ ex-offenders.
  • Where to access support, guidance and information to break the cycle and connect business and people.

This event is designed for all our membership but particularly those in leadership and middle management functions within those organisations, particularly those in people/HR functions.

There will be an opportunity to have an optional tour of the facility, as well.

Joining instructions will be sent prior to the event, detailing security and ID requirements.

Please cancel your ticket if you are no longer able to attend. Parking will be available on-site.

Dress code: We don’t stipulate a dress code at our events, but we’d recommend you dress like you’re going to meet new clients. The most important this is that you’re comfortable.

Behaviour & Conduct: Our events create an inclusive space for individuals and organisations to meet where we expect all our attendees to behave with courtesy and respect, to both each other and Chamber colleagues.

Our events are open to Chamber members only. If you’re not a member and would like to attend, or discuss the benefits of membership, please email: your@neechamber.co.uk
