Latin party spirit comes to Tyneside
A festival which aims to showcase the very best of global Latin American cultures is coming to Tyneside at the start of July. The very first ¡VAMOS! Festival! will combine cuisine, art, film, theatre, live music, literature, fashion, sport & club music in various venues across Newcastle and Gateshead from 7 – 17 July.Popular venues Secco and Paradiso in Newcastle have been chosen to host a series of parties for the festival which forms part of NewcastleGateshead Initiative’s Culture 2006 programme. Secco Bar on Pilgrim Street will provide the backdrop for a steamy Cuban Evening on Tuesday July 11 where customers can take part in special rum tastings and cigar workshops whilst enjoying the hot rhythms of Latin music. Entry will be free and the event is being sponsored by Havana Club.On Sunday July 16 Paradiso will also host the End of Festival Party. With free entry the night will feature a relaxed programme of DJs, musicians, food and cocktails. Cristina de Giorgi, director of The Gusto Group said: “We are really honoured that NewcastleGateshead has chosen Secco and Paradiso as venues for the ¡VAMOS! Festival. All the events will draw on the North East’s rich history with Latin cultures to position Newcastle and Gateshead as a truly global city and that’s great for business.”
