A multi-million pound campaign aimed at raising the profile of the North East of England has been named the World’s Leading Regional Marketing Campaign for the second year running.
The ‘Passionate people. Passionate places’ campaign received the accolade at the World Travel Awards held in Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean last night. The campaign, which features people who are passionate about the region, aim is to highlight the North East’s best assets to promote it to students, businesses and visitors. It beat off stiff competition from India; the Canary Islands; Queensland, Australia; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Vermont, USA; Poitou-Charentes, France; Saxony Anhalt, Germany and Greater Miami to scoop the prestigious award.
Stacy Hall, Director of Communications at regional development agency, One NorthEast, which developed the campaign said: “To win this title two years in succession is independent endorsement of the impact that the campaign is having not only regionally and nationally but also internationally. It is a great accolade for the region as well as for everyone involved in the campaign and in spreading the message about the strengths of the region far and wide.”
