New European route for North East airport
A North East airport has secured a new route to Barcelona. Budget airline operator Ryanair has announced a brand new, three-times weekly service to Barcelona Girona from Durham Tees Valley airport. The new route, which will commence on 13th February 2007, marks a second route from the North East airport for the Irish operator, which already runs a service to Dublin.
Hugh Lang, Durham Tees Valley Airport’s Managing Director said: “I am delighted with today’s announcement which builds on our strong business relationship with Ryanair from Durham Tees Valley Airport. Our focus is very much on the delivery of popular destinations for the people of this region and I am sure this new route to Barcelona Girona will be extremely successful.” Caroline Baldwin, Ryanair’s Sales & Marketing Manager for UK, Ireland & CEE said: “Ryanair’s Barcelona base has performed very strongly this summer and has firmly established itself as an important driver of both tourism and business in the region. Ryanair expects to carry a total of 45,000 passengers on the route from Durham Tees Valley in the first year of operation bringing the total number of Ryanair passengers at the airport to 145,000.”
The new route is available for booking from today from just £2.99 on www.ryanair.com.
