Prestigious air conference could fly into Tyneside
A prestigious air travel conference, attended by hundreds of delegates, could be flying into Tyneside in 2008. Destination marketing agency, NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI), is bidding to host New Routes Europe in May 2008. The conference will see hundreds of representatives from airports and airlines visit the area to discuss the development of more new air links between Newcastle International and various European destinations.
In preparation for their bid, NGI recently joined One NorthEast and Newcastle International Airport in Dubai for the 12th World Route Development Forum attended by 2000 delegates, 650 airports and 300 airlines.
During the three-day event, over 30 meetings were held on the Newcastle Airport stand to discuss the development of many new routes, such as those just announced by Jet2 from various Spanish destinations to Newcastle International.
Jessica Roberts, head of Business tourism, NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, a part of NGI said:“ NGI’s attendance in Dubai provided the perfect platform to raise awareness to the Routes organisers that NewcastleGateshead could be the ideal destination to host the sister event in future. We will now work to produce a bid which will hopefully convince them that there is no better place for their event in 2008 than here.“
