Local Democracy Week
Today sees the start of Local Democracy Week (16 - 20 October). The week is an initiative by the Local Democracy Campaign, which works throughout the year to encourage young people to become more involved in their community and the wider democratic process.
During the week, councils, government departments and youth organisations will be encouraged to organise and run activities locally and regionally. One such event is ‘I’m a Councillor, Get me out of here!’ which is being run by the Local Government Association.
The Local Democracy Campaign will also be holding its own events but the focus is very much on local councils and their partners, to get together and run something in the local area.
