North East e-learner champions recognised

One of the North East’s biggest online success stories is celebrating six years in business this week, with an awards ceremony which will recognise the achievements of those at the cutting edge of 21st Century learning. The Regional Support Centre Northern (RSC) assists colleges, universities and local education authorities in making the best possible use of information and communications technologies, providing support to education centres throughout the North East.

Gareth Davies, manager of RSC Northern, said: “Our aim is to stimulate and support innovation by implementing best practice in the region. We go out to the local colleges and universities and try our best to help enhance learning through leading edge technology. “We do this by finding the UK’s top experts – whether in Podcasting, intellectual properties or assistive technologies for people with disabilities – and match them up with local education providers.”

RSC Northern’s Celebration of e-Learning 2000-2006 awards, presented by Lord Puttnam, the Chancellor of the University of Sunderland, will reward individuals and organisations who have made a substantial contribution to e-learning in the North East. The awards take place this Thursday at the Centre for Life in Newcastle. Over 200 guests will see colleagues collect awards in 10 categories. Organisations nominated for awards include Stockton Riverside College, City of Sunderland College, Newcastle College, Bede College (Sunderland), Hartlepool College of Further Education, Gateshead College, Tees Valley ACL VLE Consortium and Middlesbrough College.
