NewcastleGateshead's Glowing
Glow, NewcastleGateshead’s first international festival of light and the centrepiece of this year’s Winter Festival, switches on later today. Working in partnership with NewcastleGateshead Initiative, Newcastle City Council and Gateshead Council have commissioned NVA, the UK’s leading public art and event producers, to create Glow. In the place where the first electric light bulb was invented, Glow will see NewcastleGateshead lit up in style with more than 60 buildings illuminated in the festival colour of magenta and a range of lighting installations by renowned regional, national and international artists positioned across the area.
From 5pm today festival goers can follow the Glow trail from one illuminated artwork to the next. A Glow trail map and a free podcast, detailing all of the artist installations along the route, can be downloaded from www.NewcastleGateshead.com, maps can be collected from stewards along the trail itself and a full guide to the festival can be picked up at tourist information centres and major venues throughout the region.
