Creative teaching scheme launched
A new creativity programme for teachers has been launched by the Big Ideas Centre in Sunderland. Open to secondary school teachers in Tyne and Wear, ‘Stepping up to Creativity’ is a follow up to the extremely successful pilot programme ‘Raising Aspirations through Creativity’ which was launched earlier this year. The project has already attracted interest from schools and teachers across the region and the Big Ideas team are hoping to match the success of the pilot programme by recruiting 60 teachers.
Lisa Smith, Big Ideas Manager, said: “The workshops are designed to be interactive and fun and are packed with creative thinking exercises which can be transferred into the classroom environment. “Teachers face many problems when introducing new methodology including: low attendance, class size, punctuality, classroom conflicts, behaviour and peer group pressure. ‘Stepping up to Creativity’ will offer practical applications for overcoming these barriers.”
The first workshop takes place at the Big Ideas Centre on the 22 January and funding is available for supply teachers. For further information about the ‘Stepping up to Creativity’ workshops contact Lisa Smith on 0191 516 6075 or email lisa.smith@ne-bic.co.uk.
