Winging it!
With Simon Raybould at Curved Vision Theatre
I did a day’s training yesterday for a larger group than I’d usually work with – which meant that the visual stuff I wanted to show people couldn’t be done on the flipchart so I wrote the slides well in advance – just like we tell our clients to do.
Then, in the introduction sessions before coffee, one of the delegates made a comment about their organisation being re-structured and how it was affecting them. There was a murmur around the room and suddenly I saw how the points I needed to make after coffee could be made easier to grasp if I changed my example to the one they’d just given me.
By the time everyone sat down again, the slides had changed completely.
The tip? Despite what I normally say about “preparation, preparation, preparation”, a little improvisation can go a long, long way…. and the best way to be able to do that is to take quarter of an hour some time to learn about Master Slides (or their equivalent in your software), so that you can make changes quickly and well.
As always, you can chat with me or ask about training by emailing me at simon@curved-vision.co.uk.
