Newcastle United donate Big Brother money

Newcastle United are donating all the money they received from the Big Brother auditions to charity. The total room hire for the auditions at St James Park, amounting to £6000, will be handed over to representatives of Show Racism the Red Card today. Glenn Roeder and some first team players will be making the presentation this afternoon at the stadium.

Ged Grebby from Show Racism the Red Card said: “It is great that something positive is coming out of the racism in the Big Brother house. Newcastle United are donating all the proceeds from the room hire from the Big Brother auditions to our campaign. We will be using the money to help improve this year’s school competition and reprint the Newcastle United Show Racism the Red Card poster. The aim is to have more schools than ever taking part in our UK wide competition and we will be hosting prize giving ceremonies at the three national stadiums: Hampden, the Millennium and Wembley.

“We thank Newcastle United for all their support over the years and look forward to working closely with the club to combat racism not just in football but in society as a whole.”

The winning entries from the schools’ competition including artwork, posters, short stories, poetry, videos and animations will be touring the UK in an exhibition after the prize giving ceremonies in May. For more information about the charity, visit www.srtrc.org.
