Britain's small businesses keep it in the family
Small businesses in the UK are not receiving adequate support and many are turning to their families for advice, a new survey reveals. The study, conducted by insurance provider Brighter Business, found that more than half of small business owners feel they receive more practical advice from their families than their financial service provider or local business support organisations.
According to Brighter Business, the UK’s smallest businesses are feeling the most isolated, and businesses with fewer than five employees found business support organisations to be the least helpful.
Robert Bartlett, founder and managing director of Brighter Business, said: “It is shocking that small businesses feel that their families offer more support than the ‘so called’ professionals. “Anyone who has started or run a small business knows how our families provide vital emotional and practical support, however they cannot always be expected to offer in depth business expertise or advice.”
