North East Film premiere kicks off Architecture Week 2007
Architecture Week 2007 is being launched in the North East with an exclusive film preview at one of the region’s most historic cinemas. Architecture Week kicks off at the Tyneside Cinema, Old Town Hall, Gateshead tomorrow with the first UK screening of Sydney Pollack’s documentary about architect Frank O Gehry.
Carine Aguet, Northern Architecture Week Coordinator, said: “The Tyneside Cinema is an ideal backdrop for the launch of Architecture Week 2007. Not only was its original base on Pilgrim Street designed and built by local film entrepreneur Dixon Scott, its temporary home at Gateshead Old Town Hall maximises on original Victorian features like its stage and balcony. Such atmospheric surroundings can only add to the architectural resonance of the film.”
Sketches of Frank Gehry is Sydney Pollack’s portrait of his lifelong friend Frank O Gehry. It focuses on examples of Gehry’s work including The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. The Tyneside Cinema is hosting a special preview of the film prior to its national release at the end of June and this exclusive screening will be the first in the region.
Jonny Tull, marketing and communications manager at the cinema, said: “Tyneside Cinema is thrilled to be part of Architecture Week in the North East and honoured to be the venue that launches the celebrations. It’s a great opportunity for audiences to see this special preview and find out what else is in store over the week ahead.”
Northern Architecture’s launch of Architecture Week 2007 takes place at Tyneside Cinema on Thursday 7 June. Doors open at 6pm and there will be a reception with refreshments to follow. Tickets for the event can be purchased directly from Tyneside Cinema’s box office on 0191 232 8289 or by emailing boxoffice@tynecine.org.
