Double top for competition winners
A North East video games company has given two lucky national competition winners the chance to appear alongside the world’s greatest darts players in a new computer game being developed here in the region. Mark Barnes from Oldbury, West Midlands and Darren Richardson from Basildon, Essex travelled to Mere Mortals studio in Newcastle last week to be transformed into virtual characters in The PDC interactive championship darts game. Their all-expenses paid trip came after the video game enthusiasts won a competition in online computer games magazine Gamespot and The Sun newspaper.
Mark and Darren hit the bullseye over 10,000 other hopefuls to appear alongside darts legends such as Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor, Andy ‘Rocky’ Jenkins and Ronnie ‘The Rocket’ Baxter in PDC World Championship Darts 2008. It is narrated by famous darts commentator, Sid Waddell.
Ouseburn based Mere Mortals is a world leader in computer games development, and gave the winners a behind-the-scenes look into how games are made, before immortalising them in an once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Competition winner Darren Richardson, said, “It’s been so interesting to see how these games are made and the amount of work that goes into them, and now I can say that I’m a part of it! From being a kid sitting and playing these types of games, to then actually being in one, is hard to grasp. My mates don’t believe me when I tell them that I’ve travelled all the way up north to become part of a computer game, I mean who would?”
