College's search to double tutor numbers

A North East college has launched a nationwide search to double the number of tutors teaching its courses. Durham Logistics College is searching for tutors across a variety of disciplines to help meet demand for its specialist courses. The college, based in Langley Park, County Durham, was the first organisation in the North East to have its courses accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and has reported that its courses are becoming increasingly popular since launching in 2002.

Kevin Rumfitt, managing director, said: “As demand for our courses is far exceeding supply of tutors, we are looking for industry experienced professionals who can pass on their first-hand knowledge and understanding to students. We are hoping to harness latent talent and to attract tutors who are working or have worked in the industry as they have a unique insight and understand exactly what is involved in effective management of the supply chain.

“Tutors are required across all methods of training including classroom based learning and distance learning. We are happy for tutors to fit working with us around other activities and we are keen to discuss opportunities with industry professionals working full time, part time or recently retired.”

The five core training areas provided by the college are Logistics, Purchasing, Operations, Leadership and Export. The courses on offer are institute-approved qualifications, ranging from intermediate to degree-level.
