1.6m investment for Sunderland
A £1.6 million project to help transform two Sunderland communities by boosting business and creating jobs is being launched in the city. The Enterprising Community Zone project is an innovative four year plan that will be managed by Sunderland-based enterprise agency SES.
The aim of the project is to promote, help and support new and existing businesses - creating jobs and establishing Hendon and the East End as a place to do business. The scheme builds on the regeneration work already carried out under the Back on The Map project which was set up to turn around the spiral of decline in the area and transform the image of Hendon and the East End.
Project General Manager Kevin Marquis said: “There is a perception that Hendon and the East End are not enterprising communities. However the reality is that there are many established and new businesses thriving in these areas and this new project will help build on the successes already achieved.
“The business start-up programme is targeted at the most disadvantaged within the community and is helping those without employment to create their own jobs by becoming self-employed. “The long-term aim is to establish Hendon and the East End as an attractive place to live, work and raise a family in order to keep people in the area and boost enterprise.”
People interested in business start-up support in Sunderland can contact SES on 0191 565 0476.
