Face of education changed for millions
Hundreds of Learndirect courses are now available on-line for millions of trade unionists. The new service was launched by Newcastle College’s Trade Union Education Centre and Unionlearn at the national Trade Union Congress last weekend.
Users of the Online Learning Centre can access over 500 learndirect courses. Courses range from business and management to basic literacy and numeracy. The project will allow the growing numbers of individuals in the UK with internet access to find out more information about courses, to enrol and be supported throughout their course. The nature of the Centre means that traditionally hard to reach learners will be able to learn in their own time, as well as receiving the support of a personal tutor.
Margaret Stephenson, manager of the Newcastle College Trade Union Education Centre said: “We are delighted to have played a part in offering over six million trade union members and their families a flexible and interactive way of fitting learning into their lives.”
The new facility is expected to engage over 35,000 trade union representatives and members across the region, which will be able to benefit from a wide range of flexible courses from Health and Safety through to Leadership Skills, all of which will offer IT and internet training.
The online learning centre can be accessed by logging onto www.tuc-unionlearning.org.uk.
