In the news: Effective e-mail marketing is close to polite conversation according to a recent analysis by eMarketer based on a survey of the top 50 online retailers in the United Kingdom and the top 100 in the United States.

Once again Google is in the news for copyright violation, this time it is claimed that over 300 movies including recent summer blockbusters are available for free on Google Video. Oops!

According to Channel 4 News Google could be planning the introduction of a rival to Second Life. Beta testers experienced a smart combination of 3d video and a social networking.

Social networking is going mobile according to eMarketer.com, a new report mentions Mobango, a UK-based start-up that runs WAP and Web sites targeting mobile users. The company uses an ad-sponsored business model and claims to have signed up 1.2 million users. It raised $2.5 million in February 2007.

Rave of the week: Google celebrated its ninth birthday on the 27th of September - nine years only to become the world’s busiest search engine. Not bad!

Rant of the week: Yahoo! is busy closing down some of its products including Yahoo! Photos and Yahoo! Podcast, a great shame really as I enjoyed using them. Still there is plenty more features to play with though.

Try something new this week: Google has refreshed the presentation of the Google Apps package which includes Google Mail, Google Talk, Google Calendar as well as the controversial Google Docs. Let us know what you think.
