Creatives clustering in County Durham
A new business cluster in County Durham has launched a campaign to encourage local purchasing and boost the creative economy. Creative Durham is promoting new media designers, artists, animators, filmmakers, musicians and photographers from across County Durham though a ‘buy local’ service.
Jill Newey, Cluster Manager at Creative Durham said: “There’s a really vibrant community of people making a living out of creative occupations in the County, and the basic aim of Creative Durham is to help them win more business through collaborative marketing efforts. This, our first campaign, will promote the creative talents that are on our doorstep and anyone requiring the services of these occupations can just contact Creative Durham and we’ll help them through the sourcing and buying process. Enquiries are already starting to come in - one client was about to go to Ikea to source artwork for their office but they heard about this new cluster and now we’re helping them source some original local art instead.”
Anyone who would like to have their work profiled in the directory should contact Creative Durham on 0795101 5201, or email creativedurham@furtherconsultancy.co.uk.
Andrew Evans, Director of ElfMonkey an independent film company in Willington, and member of the cluster, said: “There’s huge scope for these kind of creative businesses to work together: web designers use film; film producers use animators; animators use artists etc. it just needed someone to come along and make it happen, and that’s where the Creative Durham team come into their own.”
