Virtual centre to regenerate healthcare
A scheme to bring together the North of England’s top scientists has just gone virtual. regeNer8 is an online centre set up to advance regenerative medicine.
The centre will be the focus of collaboration between industry, clinicians and academics at the North’s eight most research-intensive universities, the N8 group. The initiative is backed by a partnership between Cels (the organisation growing the healthcare sector in the North East) and the Leeds-based BITECIC (Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Centre of Industrial Collaboration). The two groups are providing regeNer8 with business and marketing support.
regeNer8’s aim is to create new commercial opportunities in the healthcare industry by gaining a competitive advantage worldwide. At a launch event in York on Friday, the N8 group aims to stimulate debate about the mechanisms by which industry and academia can provide opportunities for technological and commercial development.
Professor Fisher, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Leeds said: “regeNer8 builds upon the extensive research activities of the Northern Universities. It focuses on partnerships with industry and clinicians to translate basic research into novel regenerative products and therapies, which will provide economic and societal benefits to the North of England.”
regeNer8 is part of a £6m project funded by The Northern Way, the consortium of the three Northern development agencies.
