Training is cut above the rest for County Durham hairdresser
A Durham hairdresser has sights set on growth following heavy investment in staff training. With over 35 years’ experience in hairdressing, Janet Maitland has developed her business into two salons and a world-renowned training academy that has trained hundreds of apprentices since it opened in 2001. Janet Maitland Hair Excellence is now drawing up plans to open further state-of-the-art salons across County Durham.
Janet said: “Business Link has been very supportive as the business has grown - identifying ideas and opportunities for growth. Having built the business on reputation, I’m extremely proud of my team’s achievements and now feel the time has come to expand confidently.”
Janet added: “With Business Link’s support we’re currently developing a website and looking to launch a new magazine which will showcase the salon’s work. We’re always looking to develop the skills within the salons and for opportunities to develop the team to reinforce the salons’ position within the market and strengthen the team spirit.”
With a structured training programme in place providing career development opportunities, Janet also encourages her staff to take sabbaticals and gain experience abroad.
Dianne Watson from Business Link said: “Janet is committed to staff training and development and is willing to invest time and money in training to ensure her staff are trained to the highest standard. “This investment has provided numerous benefits to the business, from a great working culture to staff retention and improved productivity.”
