BBC seeks out North East's top tech talent
Technology businesses and entrepreneurs in the North East are being offered the chance to win contracts with the BBC. The broadcaster will launch its annual ‘Innovation Labs’ programme to the region in November.
The nationwide initiative brings together BBC Commissioners and independent companies to develop new products and services for the corporation. It will begin in the North East with a one-day launch event at The Royal Station Hotel, Newcastle, on Tuesday 13 November.
The BBC has asked the Codeworks digital innovation centre to be its partner, with regional sponsors One NorthEast (ONE), Northern Film and Media and Middlesbrough-based The Institute of Digital Innovation also lending valued support.
Matthew Cashmore Development Producer, BBC said: “Since BBC Innovation Labs started in 2006 we’ve seen some amazing projects commissioned - particularly from companies based in the North East - which have resulted in some really strong content that has driven our organisation forward.”
Following the launch, teams will be invited to submit their initial ideas to the BBC. The teams with the best ideas will be invited to attend a week-long residential Lab where they will develop these ideas further and pitch them to BBC commissioners.
Anyone wishing to register for the BBC Innovation Labs launch event in Newcastle can do so at open.bbc.co.uk/labs.
