Forum aims for jobs and work boost
The creation of thousands of new businesses and jobs for the North East of England is to be discussed by political and business leaders. David Cameron, Hazel Blears and Nick Clegg will be among those taking part in the North East Economic Forum at the Hilton Hotel on Tyneside.
This year’s event aims to create up to 22,000 new businesses and find ways of getting 73,000 more people into work. The region’s economic progress and challenges will also be reviewed.
The Forum, which meets annually, was set up in 2005 in the aftermath of the rejection of a North East Regional Assembly.
Gordon Brown said: “The North East has much to be proud of, its cultural and economic transformation has been remarkable. “A new social and economic strategy is being built which captures the region’s distinctive advantages both as a business location and as a place to live.
“The Annual North East Economic Forum is a great opportunity to discuss these issues as the region faces the future.”
The event will take place in the middle of the UK’s Enterprise Week on Thursday 15 November.
