Work daydreamers busy plotting start-up escapes
44% of today’s business owners plotted their start-up ideas while still employed. This is one of the results of Barclays local business’s latest survey.
The research also highlighted that financial and family pressures were the concerns stopping most people pursuing their dreams.
Turning their backs on the security of a full-time salary made 40% nervous of taking the plunge, while a further 19% admitted they were worried about getting into debt. Another 6% were concerned how starting a business would impact on their families.
John Davis, marketing director for Barclays local business, said: “This survey highlights what many bosses have probably suspected for a long time - that for some employees, their current job is the last thing on their mind when they are at work. However, while they may be wasting their employer’s time they are not necessarily being idle, as they are planning for their own future. For budding entrepreneurs, the routine of their day job can spark dreams of going onto bigger and better things.”
So while bosses might be clamping down on the amount of time employees spend on Facebook, it appears there’s little they can do if workers are plotting their imminent escape in their heads…
