Salon is hair to help

A regional salon is proving that it is ‘hair to help’ by supporting a national initiative which is giving cancer patients new confidence. Tribeca Hair Design in Sunderland is taking part in the ‘My New Hair Initiative’, which allows cancer patients to benefit from real hair wigs and access to top styling and cutting services.

Darren Stuart, owner manager of Tribeca, is keen to support the campaign. He is offering the salon’s services in addition to hair care and wig maintenance advice at the same price as a regular visit to the salon.

The My New Hair initiative takes all the involved stylists through a specialist wig cutting training programme organised by L’Oreal. Through additional training with the North East Cancer Network, Tribeca staff are being taught how to communicate more effectively with patients undergoing treatment.

Darren said: “This is a full service we need to offer. These are ordinary people going through an extraordinary experience and they deserve to be supported. We are not just looking to style their wigs, we hope to give them an all round, uplifting experience where they feel understood.”

Tribeca offer the wigs and initial consultations under the value of the issued NHS voucher and to those without a voucher the service is given at cost.

Darren added: “We hope to bring a whole new perspective of what it means to live with cancer. Both men and women are equally affected by the disease and we offer these services to anyone with the need.”
