Recruitment boss reaches new Altitudes
The director of a growing creative recruitment consultancy has been shortlisted for a regional business award. Laura Maddison, director of Gateshead-based Altitude Recruitment, is one of seven businesswomen up for Best Newcomer at the North East Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2007.
Laura said: “The Best Newcomer is such a strong field and I was unsure whether I should enter, so to reach the shortlist was a huge shock. I am absolutely ecstatic to have been selected and, win or lose, I’m just delighted to be recognised for my hard work.”
The agency, created by Laura in June 2006, supplies bespoke recruitment solutions for advertising, marketing, PR and digital media companies across the country and has already successfully placed 75 people. After one year, the agency has over 100 clients, almost 4,000 candidates and is set to treble its first year turnover.
The awards are organised by Women into the Network, a business exchange group established in 1999 by Durham University. Organisers say that the award will go to a woman who has launched a new venture with passion, enthusiasm and an unwavering desire to succeed.
Laura said: “I wish I had done it years ago and looking back, cannot understand why I waited so long to break free. Although it is hard work and I probably work more hours now, it is far more flexible and rewarding to run your own business.”
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony hosted by BBC Radio Newcastle’s Julia Hankin at The Sage Gateshead on November 16.
