Campaign makes its mark in Tees Valley

The Make your Mark campaign in Tees Valley, which launched two weeks ago, has secured over 60 Enterprise Week events across the region.

This week is the annual focal point of the Make your Mark campaign, and is about encouraging business start-ups, social enterprises and the development of an enterprising workforce.

The biggest event for the campaign this year is the Make Your Mark Challenge, which took place on Monday with over 38,000 young people across the country taking part. More than 7,000 teams in schools, colleges and universities will tackle the UK’s biggest ever live enterprise competition at the same time. This is more than double the number of teams compared to last year.

Pamela Hargreaves, who is heading up the Make Your Mark campaign, said: “It just goes to show what a supportive and enterprising region we are living in after working with partners to secure over 60 events in the space of five weeks and having only officially launching the campaign at the beginning of the month.

“Although the region has some of the lowest levels of business start ups in the country, there can be no doubt that we are as enterprising as any anywhere else in the UK, and there is an army of people already committed to demonstrating what is possible for young people in the Tees Valley.”

James Ramsbotham, chief executive of the North East Chamber of Commerce said: “The Make your Mark campaign in Tees Valley is a vital tool to help encourage and inspire young people to consider starting up a business as a practical and exciting career option.”
