Top industry accolade for the Specials team

A fast-growing North East pharmaceutical company has been recognised for its commitment and contribution to the health care industry in the region.

Prudhoe-based Specials Laboratory caught the attention of judges at the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) UK awards because of its willingness to share its own general and technical knowledge with other practitioners in the region, as well opening up its site to visitors.

Brian Dougherty, Chairman of the Specials Laboratory and its sister company, Specials Clinical Manufacturing, said: “A central ethos of our company is to share and learn from colleagues in the industry, so I am very pleased to have received this accolade.

“I’m thrilled that an organisation like the ISPE, which is one of the largest non-profit organisations in the world, has honoured us with this award. It says a great deal about what we now have at the Specials Laboratory and it is the perfect complement to the National Training Award that we received last month.”

The ISPE provides forums and educational services to promote development within the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.

Brian Sixsmith, Secretary of the ISPE UK Affiliate, said: “We expect that the companies registered with our organisation willingly share their expert knowledge, but we were particularly pleased with the way the Specials Laboratory goes about doing this on a day-to-day basis.

“Our judges looked particularly at the way the company has involved itself in the local community as a place where young people can learn about the wonders of modern science and medicine. They also felt that individuals at the Specials Laboratory work brilliantly with other sectors outside of the industry to develop courses and seminars.”
