Financial tech firm rewards stars of the future
Two North East students have been recognised for their promise and academic excellence by a Newcastle-based technology firm. David Smithson (20), from Brussels, Belgium, and Matthew Lovert (20), from Sunderland, each took home awards at the second annual Scott Logic Excellence Prize evening for being the top performing students on their Computing Science courses at Durham and Newcastle universities respectively.
The pair of students each received a trophy, a cash prize, and will be rewarded with a job interview at Scott Logic once their studies end in June.
The firm’s founder Gary Scott established the annual Scott Logic Excellence awards last year, along with a summer internship scheme, to ensure the company hires the best graduates available.
Mr Scott said: “The North East is unique in that it is home to five universities amidst a population of 2.5 million. But due to shortages of job opportunities, many of the graduates from these universities leave the region. It has become a very big priority to retain these graduates in the local area and Scott Logic is in an excellent position to offer first class job opportunities to the very brightest of talent.”
Matthew Lovert said: “I’m delighted to have received this award in recognition of my academic achievement. Winning the award has definitely helped boost my confidence, and it looks great on my CV too.”
