North East voluntary sector workers gain management honours
Managers from some of the North East’s leading voluntary sector organisations have received management honours at a special presentation in Murton.
68 North East managers achieved an NVQ in Management at level three or above as a result of Project North East’s most recent “Building Capacity in Voluntary Organisations” (BCVO) management development programme, which is supported by the Northern Rock Foundation and the European Social Fund.
PNE’s BCVO programme is designed to develop management skills that enable people to meet specific challenges within community and voluntary sector organisations. Responding to significant demand from the sector for NVQ qualifications at level three and above, the BCVO programme also enables managers to achieve their qualification without having to incur the substantial costs of providing a paper based study file.
Explaining the flexibility of PNE’s approach to the NVQ assessment process, Tracey Moore of Project North East said, “The NVQ assessment process is designed to work around the needs of the individual, and can be provided in the workplace at a time and pace to suit their requirements. This offers flexibility and convenience whilst saving time and reducing costs, which makes it ideal for busy people in the Public, Private and Voluntary sectors.”
The programme, which covers essential topics ranging from fundraising to training on good governance, has helped over 210 people achieve their NVQs in Management since 2002 through BCVO courses in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Co. Durham, and Tees Valley.
On presenting the NVQ awards, Roger McCartney, Regional Manager of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) said, “The CMI is committed to developing management and leadership skills, and applauds the 68 managers who have received their NVQ qualifications. Improvement through learning and development is key to the future success of such individuals, their organisations and our region.“Â
