Circuit board specialist is wired up for success

An electronics firm in Jarrow is creating 18 new jobs as it pushes ahead with expansion plans. Summit 1 Technology Ltd specialises in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly for the automotive and industrial markets.

Originally part of Japanese-owned Mitsumi UK Ltd, the firm was created by a management buy-out of the manufacturing assets of Mitsumi UK Ltd last May.

Summit 1 has secured an £82,000 Selective Finance for Investment grant from One NorthEast to bolster its expansion project, which will include the purchase of a new production line to meet increased demand, boosting its production capacity by 25%.

The firm’s client list includes RDM Automotive Ltd, for which it produces the stolen vehicle tracking systems fitted to vehicles including Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover.

Ian Walton, Managing Director at Summit 1 Technology Ltd, said: “The grant support from One NorthEast will really help us to meet the increased demand we have seen in recent months. Everyone is looking forward to seeing the new production line in action as it will really make a difference to our business by increasing our capacity and giving access to new markets and customers.”
