North East lad helps Middle East marathon
A Tees Valley man has been getting in some good practice for organising the Redcar Half Marathon by helping to organise the world’s richest ever marathon.
Paddy Corcoran is managing director of Tees Valley Leisure, and is organising the Redcar Half Marathon on 20 April for the local authorities. Last week Paddy flew out to the Middle East as part of a UK team to help organise the 2008 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon. The run takes place on Friday and will be the richest long distance running event in history, with prize money totalling $1 million.
Paddy said: “This is a fantastic opportunity - a host of leading lights of distance running from all over the world are taking part. “It’s a great privilege to be picked to be part of this team to work with Dubai organisations to ensure the event is a success and my experience organising the Dubai Marathon and the contacts I have made whilst out here, will without doubt, help to make the Redcar Half Marathon a huge success.”
Paddy has joined Bob Gallagher and Andy Ross (both from Gateshead) and other organisers from the North East as part of the 17-strong UK team who have also flown to Dubai.
Anyone interested in taking part in the Redcar Half Marathon which takes place on 20 April should contact Tees Valley Leisure on 01642 452488.
