North East firms make living easier
A North East-based qualification provider has joined forces with one of the region’s largest housing associations to provide support and security to the 1 in 6 residents now living in apartment-style buildings in the region.
Many residential buildings now host a concierge who is responsible for the day-to-day running of the building as well as the safety and security of those living there. Because of this, qualification provider NCFE has been working with Your Homes Newcastle to launch a new qualification aimed at training these concierges.
Mary Macdonald, Employment Initiatives Manager for Your Homes Newcastle, said: “This new qualification is aimed at helping learners develop skills to become a housing concierge and it is also suitable for anyone currently working within the industry.
“We developed this qualification with NCFE as a response to the many concierges employed throughout Newcastle, the region and the UK as a whole. The duties of a concierge can vary from ensuring the health and safety of a building’s residents to enforcing recycling procedures so the range of skills that someone will learn on this course is really broad.”
Donna McEwan, NCFE Sector Leader for Health, Public Services and Care, added: “We identified a need for some professional educational guidelines in this area and we’ve developed a really comprehensive qualification. We hope that those enrolled on this qualification, either as new or existing concierges, will be able to take a lot from it.”
