Event aims to boost Durham businesses

Businesses in Durham are being invited to share the ‘Durham City Vision’ through a new training initiative. A partnership led by Durham City Vision is to host a free event for local businesses to help them become more profitable and successful.

The event will take place at an open lunch meeting on February 7 at the Gala Theatre. The aim is to ensure that businesses from all sectors learn more about the physical and cultural regeneration of the city.

Attendees will find out more about the changes taking place across the City and how their businesses and workforce can benefit. There will also be information about future visitor trends while businesses can also flag up their own specific training needs.

Harvey Dowdy, Regeneration Manager at Durham City Vision said: “I’m looking forward to hearing what local businesses see as their key requirements and matching those with the aspirations laid out in the Durham City Masterplan. I expect it to be an eye-opening event.”

Chris Roberts, Regional Director, LSC North East, said: “It is becoming increasingly important for employers to invest in the skills of their workforce in order to remain competitive. A well trained workforce equips all types of organisations with the ability to meet the challenges of today’s fast-moving world of work.”

Dave Peebles, District Manager, at Jobcentre Plus said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Durham. It’s difficult to put a value on skills and training for jobs, as they are absolutely essential in today’s economy. The information and advice that businesses will get at this event regarding free or subsidised training will be extremely useful to help recruit the right people for their vacancies.”

The Learning and Skills Employer’s Event takes place in The Studio at Gala Theatre from 1.15pm on Thursday February 7. For more information contact Kathryn Watson by email on Kathryn.watson@durhamcityvision.com.
