Red Kite takes off

After 25 years with a major UK construction company, one North East man decided to spread his wings and set up his own business. Steven Hair set up Red Kite Construction Development Limited last year, and has seen a turnover of £1.5million since then.

This successful first year was topped off when former England and Newcastle United player Alan Shearer unveiled a plaque at their latest development, a new clubhouse for Red House Farm Junior Football Club in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Shearer met hundreds of youngsters at the Centre and watched as they buried a time capsule beneath the building. This is the first of five similar schemes which Red Kite hopes to build across the North East.

In his former role Steve worked on major projects across the region at sites such as Newcastle Airport and Newcastle University before deciding to use his experience in the building and civil engineering world to develop his own company.

Steve is delighted with his first year and optimistic about the future. He said: “I would expect to have grown our turnover to £5 million in the next 5 years. I have extensive contacts in the North East and I can bring my experience of major projects to smaller developments. I have a very hands on approach which ensures that jobs are completed on time and on budget.”
