Norwegian fuel firms tap North East expertise

North East companies looking to exploit the Norwegian oil and gas boom can attend a conference aimed at opening routes into this lucrative market.

Many Norwegian companies will be attending the “Rediscover North East England” event, which is aimed at showcasing the region’s strengths to the Norwegians and opening up lucrative business opportunities for the region’s companies.

The conference has been organised by Oilinfo, an independent oil and gas media publishing operation, with help from One NorthEast, NOF Energy and NaREC. Oilinfo, which has set up its UK base on Tyneside, is regarded as one of the main providers of news and information to the oil and gas sector.

Oilinfo marketing director, Oistein Tomte, said: “I would say to all North East companies that Norway is just one hour away, where there are companies in need of your skills and services. In April Norwegian companies will be here to find out what the region can offer. Some of the biggest names in Norwegian oil and gas, energy and engineering sectors will be at the conference. This is a huge commercial opportunity.

“We are delighted with our new base in Newcastle. It will help us maintain our core focus on North Sea activities but as the world gets smaller, we are increasingly covering the entire globe.”

Joanne Leng, Director of Business Development at NOF Energy, said: “The North East of England has a long standing relationship with Norway in general. A significant number of NOF Energy members are actively exporting to the Norwegian oil and gas market with many working through local partners hence showing positive commitment and addressing local content requirements. “We envisage that this particular event which is attracting some key clients from the oil sector in Norway will be a resounding success.”

Rediscover North East England takes place at the Hilton Hotel, Gateshead Quayside, on 2 April 2008. For more information about the conference visit www.uk2norway.com.
