Catch a film in a caravan

A Northumbria student will see his short film screened in what could be the world’s smallest cinema when it rolls into town next week. Adam Hogarth will see his film screened in a small caravan. ‘Sam and Norman’ tells the story of his pet dog who attacked his brother when he was three years old.

Adam said: “I was left a series of photographs when my father died and I used to lay them out in my studio space to create stories with them. That’s where I got the idea from for this animation. “The underlying message in this film is how we use pets to teach our children about responsibilities.”

Adam’s film will be shown alongside the work of students from Newcastle and Sunderland universities. LifeWork is an annual, student-led conference with a focus on providing appropriate support and guidance to students interested in careers in the cultural sector.

The Mobile Cinema, in conjunction with LifeWorkArt and Piggyback Arts, has selected a programme of student work which aims to showcase emerging talent from the North East. Only three or four people can watch the films at any one time in the 1970s Sprite caravan.

Adam said: “This is a great opportunity for unknown artists to have their work seen by the wider public.”

The caravan will be in the Northumbria University quad in front of the Students’ Union building on Wednesday 12 March between 10am and 4pm.
