Cheesemaker has cracking idea

A Northumberland cheesemaker has taken an unusual approach to dedicating a seat in the refurbished Tyneside Cinema in Pilgrim Street. Mark Robertson, an avid film fan and supporter of the Cinema, has named a new two-seater leather sofa in the Classic Circle.

However, he has passed up on the chance to attend the Gala Opening of the Cinema and is giving two members of his staff the chance to go instead. He plans to raffle his tickets among the staff, who will be able to relax in the Cinema when the Tyneside reopens this spring.

Mark said: “I have always enjoyed film and the Tyneside Cinema has a special place in the life of this region. And of course, there is the unique link between cheese and the cinema with the Wallace and Gromit films, so it seemed only natural that the Northumberland Cheese Company should dedicate a seat in the new Cinema - and we do have our own cartoon character, Matty Mouse, too!”

Companies and individuals can still dedicate a leather armchair in The Classic Circle, or a cinema seat in The Classic Stalls, The Electra or the new Screening Room.

Rachel Forth, Development Manager at the Tyneside Cinema said: “Dedicating a seat makes an ideal gift for a friend or loved one or it could be the perfect way to commemorate a special occasion. We are very grateful to the individuals and businesses who have already been most generous in supporting this campaign and all the proceeds go towards the Tyneside Cinema Appeal.”

You can find out how to dedicate a seat on the Tyneside Cinema website www.tynecine.org.
