Employees at NE company bring business success
A North East manufacturer has been celebrating the success of more than 100 employees who have gained a major qualification.
Around 110 staff at Washington’s The Tanfield Group PLC were awarded last week with their Level 2 NVQ certificates in Business Improvement Techniques. The company, which manufactures zero emission electric vehicles and aerial work platforms, is citing shorter downtimes, cost savings and increased productivity as some of the improvements resulting from the training.
The programme has been carried out for the company by Team Valley’s QGS Synergy, which was tasked with helping build a leaner workforce and finding ways of exceeding customer expectations. The BIT NVQ involves employees finding ways of making the business more efficient while increasing their own skills at the same time.
Phil Wood, Tanfield’s Continuous Improvement Engineer, said: “This has been a major success for us. It not only helps us as a company but it has helped the staff to be much more professional and proactive. “As a relatively young company we have staff who have joined us from all kinds of backgrounds and this has been an excellent way to give them the tools for continued improvement.”
Kevin Mott, Programme Development Director with QGS Synergy, said: “We are immensely pleased with the successes that Tanfield has had so far with our Business Improvement Programme. The feedback from the participating employees has been extremely positive and there is a real can-do attitude on site and as an organisation.”
