â??Take Your Picnic to Work' Friday
People are being encouraged to swap a hasty lunch in front of their computer for a picnic with work colleagues this Friday, as part of Picnopolis.
BABYPLANE inflatable picnic mats will fly in to Old Eldon Square, in the centre of Newcastle, for picnicking from 11am until 5pm.
For ‘Bring Your Picnic to Work Day’ local businesses are invited to bring their staff on a picnic, to share food and conversation with work mates.
It comes ahead of a weekend of activities at the MOTHERPLANE (Saturday and Sunday), in the Ouseburn Valley (Saturday) and Saltwell Park (Sunday), culminating in the Picnic of the Year Contest on Bank Holiday Monday.
Old Eldon Square was re-opened earlier this month following restoration to complement the wider redevelopment of Eldon Square shopping centre.
Carol Bell of the NewcastleGateshead Initiative said: “Picnopolis celebrates the fine public spaces in NewcastleGateshead. It also reminds us of their importance as places to relax and meet friends, family and work colleagues. What better place to encourage people to take time out of the office and do just this than at Old Eldon Square on Friday? It has been a meeting place throughout its history and its recent restoration means it’s the perfect place to take time out in the heart of the city.”
Please note that due to the unseasonal wet conditions, outdoor activities are weather dependent. Anyone planning to picnic can checkwww.NewcastleGateshead/picnopolis for the latest updates about events.
