Speaking the language of business
North East businesses are being offered help to build international links by improving their language and cultural skills.
One NorthEast has agreed to support the Regional Language Network (RLN), which works to improve the region’s international communications skills to increase overseas trade and competitiveness, with just over £900,000 over the next three years.
The RLN’s new funding will back a range of activity, including the development of new language products for businesses to use with staff and testing ways of tackling language skills gaps in the tourism and hospitality sector.
The RLN’s Manager, Zélie Guérin, said: “The network has been very successful since its creation, and this funding will allow us to move into new areas of work and get more businesses involved. We will be helping firms in all sectors but also doing some specific work with the tourism and hospitality sector, in which language and culture skills are so important in helping the region to attract international visitors and encouraging them to visit again.”
The RLN’s new funding will also be used to develop an influencers’ campaign in the North East, to generate awareness of the importance of language and cultural skills in business through industry leaders, trade associations and professional networks.
