New program aimed at helping emerging North East artists
The second NewcastleGateshead Art Fair will feature a new initiative aimed at helping emerging young artists from the North East.
The Fair -to be held at The Sage Gateshead from 11-14 September - will feature work from all over the world. The emerging artists’ section will showcase the work from 15 unrepresented Northern artists.
Their work will be exhibited to view and buy - curated by a range of respected curators including Alastair Robinson from Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art, Paul Stone from Vane, Julie Milne from the Laing Gallery and Anna Wilkinson from Northern Print.
Andy Balman, co-director of the Art Fair said: “This will be a great opportunity to catch these up and coming artists at an early and affordable stage of their career. The emerging artist section will feature works from artists such as Lauren Healey, Maggie Walker and Edwin Li.”
Maggie Walker said: “NewcastleGateshead Art Fair is a prestigious event, with galleries and visitors from all over the UK - so a great opportunity for an emerging artist like me.”
The emerging artists’ section brings together the buyers of today with the artists of tomorrow. It provides a great opportunity for buyers to preview the work of artists before they become famous.
This year’s event will also feature a seminar programme. A series of talks on buying art and building a collection will be held in conjunction with the BALTIC centre for contemporary art. For more about the NewcastleGateshead Art Fair, got to www.ngartfair.com.
