Revamp of historic Tyneside building complete
Luxury apartments in one of the most significant buildings in North Tyneside have been launched for sale.
Gentoo Ventures acquired the Grade II listed Irvin Building, situated on the Fish Quay, last year and has created 26 one, two and three-bedroomed apartments within the large bonded warehouse.
Andrew Jones, head of property for Gentoo Ventures, said: “The opportunity to breathe life back into such a historically prominent building was something we relished and perhaps just as important is the chance to actively participate in the regeneration of this area alongside the work done by North Tyneside Council.
“The Irvin Building is of huge local interest with a great heritage, we hope that this restoration will act as a major stimulant in the overall regeneration of the Fish Quay. It is also particularly significant to us as it represents our first major development in this area.”
The building was converted with £4.8m investment from Gentoo Ventures, including £2m gap funding from English Partnerships.
Councillor Ray Glindon, North Tyneside Council’s Cabinet member for Regeneration, said: “The development of the Irvin building by Gentoo is a pivotal stage in the regeneration of the Fish Quay.
“As a council we recognised from the outset that the success of this scheme depended on us achieving an overall development that would promote the character and heritage of the area, while also revitalising the economy of the area and ensuring it continues as a vibrant place to live, work and visit.”
