Picking up the threads of a new business
A South Tyneside based entrepreneur has opened her first business after being unemployed for several years.
Georgina Scott’s Wool Shop is located in the InShops in Jarrow and sells yarns, patterns, needles and hooks for knitting and crochet. Alongside this it also stocks a range of haberdashery supplies, embroidery cotton, knits and hand crocheted baby wear that are available to buy, or can be made to order.
Georgina started the business after receiving help from the UCanB project delivered by TEDCO on behalf of South Tyneside Means Business.
Georgina said: “Working with the UCanB project gave me the confidence and courage to go forward and take the next steps towards opening my own business.
“The workshops helped to build my practical business skills in essential areas such as finance, whilst working with Emma gave me the moral support I needed to turn my ideas into a reality.
“Without the help of the UCanB project I would probably still be sitting at home talking about starting a business rather than actually running one.” Emma Charters, from the UCanB project, said: “I have really enjoyed working with Georgina and she has worked very hard to achieve her goal. I am delighted that the business is up and running and wish her great success for the future”.
